The Secret: The Laws of Attraction

I’ve been hearing a lot about The Secret, which is a metaphysical take on the Laws of Attraction.  It’s been heralded as a New Age, or New Thought, ideology for everyone based on the works of people like Madam Blavatsky. I am aware of the book by Eckhart Tolle and also Oprah Winfrey’s endorsement of this belief, however, I have just been introduced to two new films about, or based upon, The Secret.

I started watching clips of one of these movies on Google Video, and I am in complete shock and awe.  The movie is a (obviously scripted) documentary/interview with a woman who claims to be able to channel the spirit of a being known as Abraham.  This insanity is nothing new to western civilization, but I find it rather disturbing that people are buying into this obvious hoax.

The Laws of Attraction, in some sort of exceedingly abstract way, are real, but as presented by these frauds it is not to be considered science and factual.  In short, ‘The Secret’ ideology claims that you have some sort of aura and that you attract your wants and desires via cognitive thought and some sort of karma-esque nonsense.  Total hogwash.

Education.  We need to educate.  We need to spread the word: religion is delusion.
