The bottom corner is a tweaked terminal displaying the output from an app called saidar. (sudo apt-get install saidar).  I removed window decorations using Compiz by naming the terminal window Terminal.Desktop and then used “any & (!title=Terminal.Desktop)” to remove the window, which basically embeds the terminal into your desktop.
